A: What Is This?

This is a transliteration of English names to Chinese characters that Japanese use. (Though Japanese people use Chinese characters, the sounds of the characters may vary between how a Japanese person and a Chinese person would pronounce the sound of the character.)

For example, if a person’s name is “Andy”, Miho looks at each sound (“A”, “N”, “D” and “EE) and finds corresponding sounds from Chinese characters. A person who reads Chinese characters will hear the formation of the sound “Andy”, and since each Chinese character has a symbolic significance, the representation of “Andy” in Chinese characters will create a meaning. The translation of the string of characters in “Andy” is, “A noble person who comes out with peace.” As one recipient of Miho’s calligraphy said,“It’s like my own personalized fortune cookie!”

Another choice is to have your favorite words or poetry translated into Japanese calligraphy.

B: How Can I Use This? (Gift Idea/ Tattoo)

1: Gift Ideas

- Newborn Babies
This can be a great and different gift for people who just gave birth to their newborn babies. All Miho needs to know is the baby’s name. Then, she writes his/her name in Chinese characters as an art form of calligraphy. The meaning of the baby’s name will be attached, and the baby will have his/her own personal fortune for his/her whole life.

- Weddings or Wedding Party
You might need many gifts for the people who participate in your wedding, and it is hard to take the time to pick a gift for each person and make each choice personal. Miho’s calligraphy can be the perfect gift because all gifts are equal, yet each one is unique, and moreover, each person will receive a work of art.

- Birthdays, Mother/Father’s Days…

- for someone you love or for yourself…

- Another choice is to have your favorite words or poetry translated into Japanese calligraphy.

2: For Your Tattoo / For Tattoo Artists (What This Site Provides That Others Don’t)

Many people like to have tattoos in Chinese characters. You might be able to download the images of Chinese characters from other sites, but they don’t show you the directions of the writings. A tattoo artist who uses Miho’s site says that it’s difficult to draw a character precisely without knowing the order in which the strokes are made to form the truest essence of a character. Tattoo artists prefer using Miho’s site because hers is the only one where she teaches the order and directions of the writing

Also, other sites present only common names or symbols. Miho will provide you with a copy of your own / your customer’s name or the symbol(s) you desire in Chinese characters in the form of Japanese calligraphy, in addition to instructions for the order and directions of the writing, and she attaches the English meaning of the name or symbol. Once you have the directions and image for the name you ordered, you can use it over and over.

C: What This Site Offers That Other Character/Calligraphy Sites Don’t

- Original, personal, handmade, and order-made work.

- Affordable prices and work created by a name artist and master calligrapher. Calligraphy on sale on the internet is either inexpensive because the work is not handmade or not made by a master calligrapher, or expensive because the calligrapher is taking advantage of his/her master’s degree.

- Limitless flexibility with owning the exact name, symbol, words, poetry… you desire. There are other sites that transform Western names into Chinese characters, but they only sell from a limited catalogue of common names.

- Receiving an English translation of the meaning of your name in Chinese characters or significance of the symbol or passage you have chosen.

- Step-by-step directions for tattoo artists that demonstrate the correct order and directions in which to write/draw the character(s).

- Miho imports and uses papers, frames and scrolls from Japan.
